Understanding Your Birth Chart:

 |
 |
The inner wheel of a birth chart is divided into 12 segments called Houses. There are many types of House systems used by astrologers. Astrographix charts use the Tropical House system which has equally spaced segments. Western astrological tradition uses Roman numerals to number the houses in a counter-clockwise direction around the chart.
Locating Your Ascending Sign
The starting point or cusp of the First House is called the Ascendant and indicates the eastern horizon, or the junction of night and day at the time of birth. It is drawn as a red line. The Midheaven indicates the highest point in the sky reached by the Sun on the day of birth. It is marked with an arrowhead and will be seen near the top of the chart.
The Houses have traditional associations with our day to day activities, they are greatly effected by the Sign that they occupy. The qualities of the Sign are applied to that particular part of our lives. A Seventh House that falls in Gemini is quite different from a Capricorn, for example, or your Sun may be in Leo, but your love-life governed by Scorpio.
The qualities associated with individual planets are also combined with the Houses they are located in. Some planets are powerful influences in certain Houses. Mars in the Eighth House, for example. When you have one or more planets in a House, it is likely that the area of your life represented by that House will be more important to you than Houses that have no planets. This does not mean that Houses that have no planets are empty parts of your life.
